Broad Appeal

While watching the movie Zathura tonight, which was a surprisingly fun time btw, I started wondering when exactly kid's movies started being so cool. And for that matter, why is it I seem to enjoy many of these films more than the youngsters they would seem to be targeted at? In recent memory there's been The Incredibles, Harry Potter, Sky High, Wallace & Gromit and now Zathura. I don't remember having kickass flicks like these when I was a kid. I had The Goonies. Hmm, in hindsight perhaps the Goonies really were good enough after all.

Ok your forgetting our timeless classics here. We grew up with Addams Family, The Sandlot, Problem Child, Kindergarden Cop, Home Alone, and so many more. Granted no computer animation. But I would put Zathura up against Arnolds teaching anyday hehe

Yeah, some of those movies are classics but I wouldn't call any of them "badass." They are entertaining in their own ways but the coolness factor isn't exactly off the charts. I do still love The Addams Family. I don't know what it is about that movie but I could watch it everyday. And The Sandlot is probably the only baseball movie I've ever enjoyed. Kindergarden Cop has its moments but really we're all just waiting for Arnie to say, "It's not a tumor." Problem Child was decent at the time but it doesn't have longevity. And Home Alone will forever be a holiday classic for all ages. "Keep the change, ya filthy animal!" *wink* to Schnepf

Some timeless classic children's films that we grew up with:
1) The Goonies
2) Labyrinth (who doesn't love David Bowie in spandex?!)
3) ET
4) Indiana Jones
5) Back to the Future (hello!)

Some television shows which prove we're always the superior generation:
1) Fraggle Rock
2) Jem and the Holograms
3) The Smurfs
4) Magnum PI
5) Murder, She Wrote
6) The Cosby Show

Okay so some weren't exactly children's movies or television shows. But I was a child when I watched them. So that counts.
